Helping rescue dachshunds reach their new homes!

A Long Run

The Dachshund Underground Railroad (DUR) was formed way back in November of 1997 when a group of Dachshund lovers saw a need; a need to help rescue dachshunds reach their adoptive homes. Over the next decade the DUR helped transport hundreds of dogs. While the DUR was one of the first dog transport groups online. However, we certainly weren't the last and there have been many other groups who have taken on the breed specific task of transporting Dachshunds; including some of the larger Dachshund Rescue organizations we intially formed to help - and we couldn't be happier.

Farewell

We are now, officially, out of the business of helping transport dachshunds. That doesn't mean we still won't help, as a family, but as an organization we are closing our doors. What does this mean to you? Well if you need help getting a rescue dachshund to you you should speak with the group you are adopting from. If you want to help transport Dachshunds you will need to volunteer with one of the rescue groups that focuses on Dachshunds.

This is a sad day for us at DUR headquarters but only becuase it marks a milestone in that the need for our services, as a stand alone group, are so small we are no longer required. On the flip side we are ecstatic that the various rescue groups have been so successfully in building their own transportation networks.

If you wish to get involved we encourage you to talk to one of these fantasitic groups:

Shop and Support

We are going to keep this website up for two reasons. 1. to direct people to the great groups that are still working hard to help rescue dachshunds and 2. to help raise money for those groups. The site doesn't generate much revenue; but it does, sometimes, earn a little more than it costs to keep it up. When we first added Google Ads to the site we were blacklisting any ads that involved selling dachshunds. However, as time went by we reconsidered that and now show all ads. Why? Well we think that at least this way the people who are selling dogs are helping (via their advertisement fees) to fund our group and others like us. Since we won't be in the business of transporting Dachshunds anymore we can donate most of this money (less the cost of hosting the site) to other Dachshund Groups.

If your thinking of opening a Cafe Press store - please mention the doxie.org store as your referral. This also helps us raise money to offset the cost of operations and to donate to others. Our store name is DUR - Thanks!

Thank You

Every person who signed up on this site to help transport a dacshund has our gratitude. Even if you never were called upon to help your offer is greatly appreciated and we thank you.
